Pioneer: Frank Baker![]() Frank Baker came back from the Second World War and sold life insurance. But it wasn't for him. He noticed that people needed help with their entertaining, so he set up a kitchen in the basement of his home, catering to cocktail parties and wedding receptions. From the basement he expanded into two rented halls. He became interested in politics and served for three years as a Vancouver alderman. He ran the Colonial House and the Top of the Towers, and played Taps at sundown on his trumpet. He bought the restaurant at Taylor Way and Marine in West Van, called it the Attic, filled it with Tiffany lamps and parked James Bond's Aston Martin at the front door. From there, with wife Dorothy, to a restaurant at 14th and Cambie. Tonight we remember and recognize Mr. Vancouver, Frank Baker. Accepting for Frank Baker is his wife Dorothy. Back to Previous Page |
