Pioneer: Glenn Anderson![]() Glenn Anderson was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba, about as far away from fresh seafood as you can get! In early 1971, Glenn packed up his family of 6 and headed out west. He and a partner entered into the hospitality industry by way of the motel business in beautiful Victoria, BC. Not long after, they became the proud owners of the historic Oak Bay Beach Hotel. Glenn particularly enjoyed the food and beverage side of the hotel business, working tirelessly to ensure that the patrons of the Snug and The Tudor Room were well looked after and well fed. In 1979 Glenn left the Hotel business behind and moved to Vancouver where, along with his wife Gwen and trusted friend Sandy George, he opened A Kettle of Fish restaurant. Glenn's 'fresh seafood only' concept was an instant hit with Vancouverites and their guests. Glenn and his wife Gwen became permanent fixtures behind the front desk at the Kettle. It was a family affair for the Andersons. Glenn was joined by his two eldest sons, Riley and Todd; his sister Gloria and even his two nieces. In 1989, Glenn and family opened Anderson's and The Riley Café, perched over the waters of False Creek. Glenn remained active in the business until his untimely death in 1993, at the age of 64. A Kettle of Fish is still going strong today.
