Pioneer: Nat Bailey

Nat Bailey

Nat Bailey was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and in 1911 ended up with his family in Vancouver. As a kid he would hawk newspapers on our city streets, and later he would sell hot dogs, peanuts and coffee at Athletic Park. In 1918, he transformed a 1918 model T truck into a traveling lunch counter and parked it on weekends on Southwest Marine. On a June weekend in 1928, he opened the first White Spot on Granville at 67th. It was a long way from town, but that little log cabin started a brand that was uniquely Vancouver. It survived and thrived and Nat Bailey's White Spot story became the stuff of legends.

Accepting for Nat Bailey is Warren Erhart, President of White Spot Restaurants.
