Pioneer: Peter Szasz

Peter Szasz

His bio says that Szeged in Hungary is where the best paprika is grown, and it was in Szeged that our next candidate was born - into a family of foodies. Peter Szasz came to Canada in 1957 from the dark days of the revolution to join his brother George and cousin Andrew. When his parents came to Canada in 1962, they operated Zaro's at Hornby and Robson, and in 1966, opened Szasz's at Granville and 13th. Peter retired in 1997 after 35 years in business. He died in June, 2000. Accepting for Peter Szasz is his wife Iris.
