H.A.V.E Culinary Institute

Hope*Action*Values*Ethics providing a hand up for the have not

H.A.V.E. Café is a social enterprise on the downtown eastside that is dedicated to developing job and life skills in its students. Students are selected based on need and put through an 8-week culinary training curriculum. For practical experience, students prepare the meals served to the customer H.A.V.E. Café.

Proceeds from the café are reinvested into the program. The rent collected from H.A.V.E. also goes to keep the transition house, located upstairs, operational.

H.A.V.E. Café is receiving the support from two important associations in the restaurant industry: BC Restaurant & Food Association and the BC & Yukon Hotels Association. Both organizations work with H.A.V.E. to facilitate the work placement of graduated students by advertising to their member community. Members of these associations benefit by having access to a labour source for those hard-to-fill positions.

For more information about the program or to become a candidate for training at H.A.V.E. Café, please call (604) 696-9026 or email hcts@telus.net.
